Our carefully restored stone house is the ideal place for those looking to enjoy the authentic Croatian Mediterranean. The family house with sea view is located in the green hills of Hvar, at the foot of hill Hum, viewing the peaceful and picturesque village of Vrisnik, surrounded by vineyards and olive trees. Within 10-15 minutes drive you will find everything you need, from supermarkets to restaurants. The nearest beaches can be found in Vrboska or around Jelsa, at only 5-7 km distance. The living room, a former wine cellar (konoba), with an open kitchen creates a warm and culinary environment, perfect for long and cozy dinners. Due to the thick stone walls, the temperature inside the house does not rise too high in summertime. A fireplace can provide warmth on chilly winter days. The kitchen comes with a washer, dishwasher and a big five burner stove, with electric oven. The house can accommodate up to 6 persons. On the the first floor you will find a reading corner and small balcony with sea view. Two fully equipped bedrooms with double beds that can be separated can host 4 guests. An additional 2 persons may sleep either in the attic on a double bed, or on the sofa bed on the ground floor. A seperate toilet and bathroom are found in between the two bedrooms. For families with children there are a high chair, a baby-bed, a small tub and beach toys available. There is an outdoor fire place and seating area at the backside of the house, and a large terrace at the first floor level with an extended big garden, with view on the hills, where you can enjoy your peace and privacy. For your convenience, “Konoba Vrisnik”, 100m down the road, serves a rich offer of the traditional Dalmatian cuisine, grilled fish and meat specialties, as well as homemade sweet delicacies. In the neighbouring village Svirče (1 km) you will find another nice tavern, “Kod None”, serving great pizza’s and traditional cuisine. Places of interest: Behind the Cross: The yearly religious procession “Za Križen” (Behind the Cross), inscribed as an intangible UNESCO heritage back in 2009, is a special experience. It has been taking place for nearly five centuries uninterrupted. On the night from Maundy Thursday to Good Friday, the Procession passes through 6 villages on the island. At the same time, around 22:00hrs, the processions start from six parish churches with a bare-foot cross-bearer ahead, followed by acolytes carrying candles and lanterns. While passing through the villages and hills medieval chorales are chanted. They stop in front of churches and chapels in other villages and return to their starting point in the morning at around 07:00. Our village Vrisnik is one of those villages. From our terrace you have a perfect view on this event that is also closely followed by Croatian TV. Polje: The other special phenomena is the Stari Grad Plane, “Polje”. The agricultural activity (today mostly wine growing) here has been uninterrupted for thousands of years and in all those years the land parcel system of this vast area has not been changed. It is therefore that this Plane was inscribed on the UNESCO List of the World Heritage sites in 2008, in order to prevent degradation. You can also cycle through the plain, it is fifteen minutes from our house and it is comfortably flat! Humac: A unique example of well preserved rural architecture, some 7 km from Jelsa, formerly a pastoral village, Humac originated in the 17th century. At the height of 350 m above sea level, you have a magnificent panoramic view of all the surrounding places, coves, the island of Brač and Makarska’s coast. The charm of this village lies in its harmonious stone houses, courtyards, balconies, narrow streets and nature which all give an inspiring sight. The church of Sv. Ivan and Pavao (St John and Paul) in Humac is of a recent date. If you visit this charming place you will be able to enjoy the offer of the ambiance restaurant which is open during the summer months.
